Things to do in Bermuda with Kids

This blog is inspired by our Junior Honorary Tour Guide, Hunter Hayes. With his knowledge of the island, love of its wildlife, and top tips for the most kid-friendly places to eat, there is no one better to help you plan your vacation.

At Bermudaful Island Tours, we know that there is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all perfect holiday. In our list of ideas below, we wanted to include something for everyone, whether it is the sleepy teenager who just wants to lie on the beach or the toddler who can’t keep still!

We’d love to help you shape the perfect vacation for your unique family, so please get in touch with us for customised advice and ideas. You can also browse our readymade Tours in Bermuda for a better understanding of what we do.

Bermuda’s beaches for wildlife and watersports

This had to be our number one! Bermuda has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, with soft pink coral sands, shallow waters, and fabulous snorkeling opportunities.

The most family-friendly beach is probably Horseshoe Bay, with its calm waters, beachside cafe, restrooms, and surrounding shaded spots. The beach’s horseshoe shape is perfect for protecting its wildlife, and Hunter loves being on the lookout for dolphins.

For older children who are confident swimmers, Bermuda’s snorkeling opportunities are second to none. Horseshoe Bay is home to parrotfish who snack on the coral and shoals of stripy sergeant majors.

Another family-friendly beach is Jobson’s Cove, which is a natural lagoon offers calm waters and an opportunity for less experienced swimmers and paddlers to see tropical fish. Similarly, Church Bay offers shallow reefs and more of that beautiful pink sand.

If your children, like Hunter, enjoy wildlife spotting, you might like to take a trip to Clearwater Beach or the quieter Turtle Bay Beach, where you’ll have a very good chance of spotting sea turtles. For older children, Bermuda is a wonderful, safe place to try their hand at watersports. In particular, the island is great for paddleboarding and kayaking, which provide a great vantage point to see the tropical fish and coral. For younger children, you could try a glass-bottomed boat trip.

Swim with dolphins at the National Museum of Bermuda

Bermuda’s Dolphin Quest is located at the National Museum of Bermuda and offers a safe and educational opportunity to swim with these beautiful animals. Known for its hands-on conservation advocacy, Dolphin Quest encourages a respectful and informed attitude among its young guests.

The museum itself is also a great family attraction. Activities include a Detectives Trail, a playground, and a playhouse that features a slide and a giant moray eel. Older children can enjoy the vibrant, well-organized exhibits that showcase the island’s rich history.

Explore Bermuda’s Crystal Caves

This is one of Hunter’s top Bermuda kid’s attractions, and it was actually discovered by two boys searching for a lost cricket ball. You can visit the incredible stalactites, stalagmites, and underground lake by boat. And if kids need even more incentive to visit these jaw-dropping caves, tell them that they were the inspiration for the legendary kids’ show Fraggle Rock.

Visit the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum, and Zoo

People of all ages will love the interactive exhibits, touch tanks, and up-close encounters with Bermuda’s local wildlife. The aquarium has more than 200 species of fish, including sharks and a black grouper, as well as rescued marine turtles and seals.

The zoo features over 300 species from oceanic islands, many of which are part of Species Survival Plans; and captive-breeding programs to reintroduce endangered creatures to the wild. They include flamingos, snakes, lemurs, and Madagascar hissing cockroaches!

Explore Bermuda’s historic forts and towns

For children interested in history, visit Fort Scaur and Fort St Catherine. These include fortified walls, historic cannons, and tunnels. Both are great spots to enjoy a picnic and watch the sun setting over the sea. From Fort St Catherine, you can head down to the cafes on Tobacco Bay or Snorkel Park Beach.

Another great spot for history lovers is the UNESCO World Heritage Site of St George. Those with a taste for the macabre will enjoy visiting the vintage ducking stools and stocks. A great way of exploring St George is to join our Bermuda full island tour, where you will be treated to an excellent guide who knows just how to relate to everyone in the family.

Try Bermuda’s incredible island food

The majority of places to eat in Bermuda offer kid-friendly food. Hunter’s favorites include the Frog and Onion Pub, the Bermuda Triangle Treats for smoothies, and the Ice Queen for soft-serve ice cream.

Some children love to experiment, and Bermuda is a great place to try new dishes you couldn’t try anywhere else. Challenge them to a shark hash breakfast, mussel pie, or the magnificent spiny lobster. The island also offers some unusual and delicious fruits, including loquats, papaya, and Suriname cherries.

Most kids will love Bermudan desserts, which include banana fritters, jelly rolls, and chocolate mousse cake, topped with marshmallow ice cream. On our half island tour of Bermuda, we can point out the perfect lunch and treat spots for your family.
